WHO WE ARE

Hansen Design is a multi-disciplinary design firm founded in 2004 by Birgit Hansen. She believes that good design shall be incorporated into all aspects of life. No matter how small or large a project; form, function and texture all play a vital role in her design approach.

For over two decades, Birgit has been working as an Architect and Interior Designer in the United States (California and Massachusetts) with a primary focus on larger residential projects, as well as commercial tenant improvements. She has recently relocated to her hometown of Basel, Switzerland to explore her interest in architecture and design in a new environment.

Throughout her career as a designer she has always had one foot in related disciplines. Her passion for design crosses over to the domain of Landscape Architecture, Graphic Design, Textiles and any other endeavors that will challenge her creative side.

Birgit was born and raised in Basel, Switzerland to Danish parents. She started her academic studies as an architect at The Royal Academy, School of Architecture in Copenhagen, Denmark. Three years into her studies she was given the amazing opportunity of continuing her studies at Sci-Arc (Southern California School of Architecture) in Los Angeles where she received her Bachelor Degree. After gaining some practical experience she proceeded to continue her academic education at UCLA with a Master Degree in architecture. After completing her education, she remained in Los Angeles where she worked for awarding winning architectural firms before venturing out on her own.

Although she is deeply rooted in the tradition of modern Scandinavian design and the minimalistic Swiss environment she grew up in, every project is approached with an open mind and fresh ideas.
